Infiltration And Retaliation, Story Part 4

I ran. Faster than I had ever run. It was all a blur, the man, the bomb jacket, all of it. I was carrying Kate down the street, she bled, I ran. I ran right to the hospital. Things were still a blur here. I yelled god knows what, and a bunch of doctors came out. They wheeled here away to what I'm guessing is a surgery room. For all I know they could have taken here into a back-lot.

The blur stopped, I was in a waiting room, alone. No one there but me. There were magazines, but I didn't read. There was vending machines, but I didn't eat. I had thoughts of course. "Where's Miss Danvers?" was one "What's happening?" was another and "And where is her father? Wouldn't he be here? And worried like me? Does he even know?" was too. Finally I thought "I wish someone would tell me what's going on." Almost like someone heard me, a doctor walked in.

"Oh my god! I... is she okay?" I jumped out of my seat, almost yelling.

"She is fine. It was only a piece of debris, but..."

"But?"

"She is ready for visitors, do you want to go in?"

"Are you kidding? YES!!!"

"Okay, follow me please." Everything was a blur again, but this time it was because I was so excited. All I remember is a couple of hallways, and then we were in her room.

"I'll leave you two alone." and the doctor left. Kate was just sitting there, a bandage half her face. I kinda just stood there, wondering what to say, then I finally said

"Are you okay?"

"I... I am fine. Are you okay?"

"I hate hospitals, but I'm fine none the less."

"Why do you hate..."

"No reason! So the doctor said it was only some debris."

"Hurts like hell."

"Heh, I bet."

"Do you have a phone?"

"Yeah. Why?"

"I need to call my dad."

"Okay." I handed her the phone. "Do you want me to leave?"

"If you don't mind. You could go back home if you want."

"Thank you." and then I left.
