Infiltration And Retaliation, Story Part 5

The next day was spent in a hospital. Nurses and doctors swarmed around me, but no one stopped to talk to me. No one brought me anything to do, people cared for me, but no one paid any attention to me. To summarize: I was lonely.

Though not for long, soon Brian and my father came to visit. Both at once.

"How ya doing Katie" asked my father

"Good, thank you."

"I brought you something." it was a clay kit. A exceptionally good one. It even had putty knives.

"Thank you father." Then I set to work, making my next masterpiece, right on the hospital sheets.

"I have someone to thank too." he said "Mr. Bagely... thank you for saving my daughter."

"Aw it was nuthin!... I mean you are quite welcome sir."

"Seriously, thank you. I would be lost without her. I would like to reward you." it was nice to hear him say that he'd be lost without me.

"I don't need a reward."

"Please... take this. It's all access pass to the Brick House. It'll get you pass all the security. It's the ultimate sign of my trust."

"Wow... thanks."

"Bagely..." I said "... May I talk to my father... in private?"

"Uh... yeah... I guess... I'll just go stand... outside." I could tell he looked hurt, but this conversation with my father needed to happen. He left and I started to ask:

"What really happened?" my father answered:

"It was the rebellion, they had one of their own members commit suicide... with a bomb jacket."

"Has their been any other activity?"

"None they've been silent since... why are you asking all these questions?"

"Because..."

"Because?"

"Because I'm scared! Scared that it will happen again. Scared that one of us will get hurt... that you'll get hurt."

"Oh Katie... I don't know what to tell you. I..."

"You have to go... don't you?"

"I'm sorry."

"Go. The country needs you to lead."

"I have something else to tell you."

"What?"

"The paparazzi is outside... just... be careful."

"How'd you get past them?"

"Told them I'd raise the price of paper."

"Did they scream?"

"Loudly."

"Heh. Bye Dad" he walked out and Brian walked in.

"Man it's like a sea of piranha out there."

"That bad huh."

"Yep, but I didn't tell them anything."

"Good soldier."

"Whatcha working on?"I looked at the clay I had been playing with, it looked like a lizard with wings.

"A dragon."

"Cool! You feeling okay."

"Fine... why do you ask?"

"You stopped talking all proper and you're also using contractions."

"I honestly did not notice."

"Anddddddd... you're proper again. Got any favorite movies?" It was obvious he was trying to take my mind off things, so I kept talking.

"I like the Star Wars movies."

"That's cool. You like Star Trek? My favorites are James Bond. Being a spy always sounded cool. I also watched Back To The Future. A classic, all three movies. Even when the third made no sense! I also..."

"Hey! Why not let me talk?"

"Oh... okay. Why don't you tell me about your sculptures?"

"You talk a lot when you're not a butler."

"That's a sentence you here every day!" I glared at him. "Shutting up now."

"So you wanted to here about my sculptures? To be completely honest with you... I've made so many I can't remember them all."

"I've never had the problem. I don't do the work, so I can't forget it."

"You are not funny. Anyway, I did manage to sell some."

"Really?"

"Yes."

"Cool!"

"You keep saying that, I don't think you know what it means."

"Hey... you know what? We should do this again."

"You're leaving?"

"I have a meeting all the way across town. Some old friends wanted to meet up."

"That's okay go on ahead."

"That wasn't what I was going to say. I was going to say: when you get out... would you like to get some dinner?"

"Oh... yes. They say I'll be out tomorrow."

"Perfect, see you then." Then he left. Outside of my door I heard "Out of my way you parasites! Miss Katherine is still not better!" The noise outside quieted down, and then I was alone...again.
