War Of Dragons, Part 3

"Wait a sec, what if I don't want to become the next rider?  Then what?"  I asked.  It was a legit concern, what happened then?  What happened if I didn't want to get caught up in a war?  Darsk just sighed:

"You don't have to make the decision yet, but we just want you to see the hatchery."  He weaseled out of that one good... I was still suspicious.  He sighed again.  "I'll fly you there."

"Really?" I asked.  I still hadn't done that.

"Yeah!"  I pretended to think about it.

"I begrudgingly accept your offer." I said.

"I know, you're so reluctant." he said.

"Yep."

"And not eager at all."

"You got that right."  He sighed again.

"Get on."

"All right!" So I climbed on, and we took off!

I just want to say one thing:  FLYING ROCKS!!!  The wind was rushing past my ears, while we glided above the city.  It really is amazing, just the feeling of gravity pulling you down while you rise up is... amazing!  It's like the ultimate form of rebellion, once you've flown, no rule can stand in your way!  I was thinking:

"At least being a Dragon Rider has something going for it."

"WOOHOO!!!" I yelled.

"Enjoying yourself up there?"  Darsk asked.

"This is amazing!"

"No Dragon has really gotten used to it."

"But you guys have done it your whole life."

"I meant this hole we're in."  I looked around the crevice.  I guess it was pretty confining for Dragons.  Simply put, Dragon City is at the bottom of a crevice in the Artic.  It's a big hole, about 100 feet deep, with the tallest building in the city being 40 feet.  So about 60 feet of flying space, that is pretty bad for 10 foot long Dragons.

Darsk seemed to know what I was thinking.  "It's not that bad." he said.

"But?" I asked.

"But most Dragons really want to get out to stretch their wings."

"Do you?"

"Of course."  he said.  That's when the conversation ended because we had just landed.  It had been so smooth I had hadn't noticed, until I saw we were on the ground.

Darsk looked at me: "I can't go in, but in that room is the Dragon your expected to ride, but he is till young so... just be careful."

"I will" I promised, then I walked on inside.
